Postcards from April
I’ve been dealing with some heavy storms since the year started — way more than I’m used to. It’s felt like climbing uphill against the wind… or something like that (I don’t actually know the analogy). The worst part is, none of it has really been in my control.
So much so that I’ve actually considered quitting.
Running a business is a wild experience. This year has shown me why so many people decide to walk away and just do something else. But! It’s also been a season of deep learning - about myself, about life, and about what really matters.
Because things have been so rough, I’ve learned to truly appreciate the moments when they’re not. So here are a few things I enjoyed in April:
I saw “God of Women” in Theatre
The National Theatre staged a prescribed text production in April called God of Women - a powerful play exploring power, tradition, and the devastating consequences of a patriarchal system that reduces women to mere vessels in a man’s legacy.
The story was important, but what I want to focus on is the talent. The actors. The sound. The production. Everyone involved did an incredible job.
It’s such a shame that the arts aren’t valued enough for people to build sustainable careers from their talent. I discovered new actors, admired the costumes and set design, and was amazed they managed to do six shows - two a day!
I’m now a big fan of Tjurimo Kandji and Solve X. I hope they (and the other actors) continue getting opportunities to shine.
Proof that talent exists in this country, we just need more platforms.

Blended Voices was cute!
Also in April, NTN hosted its first-ever choral competition, Blended Voice, where six choirs competed for a grand prize of N$50,000.
Fun Fact: I used to be in the choir in high school and even traveled for choral events, so it was nostalgic and exciting to witness.
All the choirs were incredibly talented. I was especially impressed by Khomas Diverse (the winners!) and the Lüderitz Youth Choir. My favourite conductor? The vibrant woman from the APV Choir - so much presence and personality on stage.
A few things could be improved, though. The show layout needs refining, and the audience really needs to listen to instructions. It felt a bit like a noisy high school event.
Still, Big Ben performing was a highlight (he’s such an icon), and the hosts - Che and Mappz - delivered as always.
Overall, a solid show.
I love Markets!
Life’s been lifing, so I hadn’t been to a market all year. In April, I finally managed to visit two of my favourites: The Green Market and The Village Sunday Market.
The Green Market
Always a quick and wholesome visit. I browsed and inevitably spent money…as one does. I went home with:
Basil Pesto from Italian Style
Lettuce from Urban Harvest
A loaf of sourdough
Ashwagandha (finally trying it)
A bracelet from Popyeni Jewels
Every Saturday | 07:30 - 12:00, find them on Instagram here.
The Sunday Market
Always the best vibes. Good music, food, and a bit of thrifting. Left with a pair of corduroy pants and an Old Navy jumper.
Every Sunday | 09:00 - 15:00, find them on socials.
PROUD Called so I answered!
This deserves its own post, but here’s a teaser.
Pewa of PROUD reached out to ask if I’d be part of her upcoming shoot. She had read a Monochrome piece we posted about stepping out of the norm and felt inspired to create refreshing and scroll stopping fashion pieces.
Because this is my year of yeses, I agreed.
More on this soon, I’ll link the full blog once it's live.
