Postcards from April 2026

When I decided to write this, I realised I had written something similar last year too. I had wanted to make this a monthly thing, but life got heavy, and I only found my way back to it around the same time the following year. Funny how that works.

March felt like a turning point, but April really brought me back to myself again. It’s strange to think that this time last year I was in such a difficult season and now I’m here, writing from a completely different place.

As cliché as it may sound, it really does get better. So if you’re in the thick of it right now, just know it won’t stay that way forever. I hope I remember that too, every time things feel hard again because the pendulum does swing. There’s good, there’s bad, and somehow that’s the rhythm of it all.

Dinner at Indus

To kick off the month, my partner and I did an impromptu date night at Indus, an Indian restaurant based in Klein Windhoek.

When we arrived, we first tried to pick a table inside, but ended up changing our minds and sitting in the outdoor area instead.

I really loved the blue wall and the framed artwork; that part was beautiful. But I wasn’t too sold on the rest of the décor, especially the tables and chairs. Our outdoor table was even a bit wobbly, and I really don’t enjoy a wobbly table.

I’m still in a bit of a back-and-forth phase with alcohol, so some days I drink and some days I don’t. That day, I went with a mocktail (I can’t remember the name, but it was cute).

For dinner, we had thalis — I went for the chicken, and he had the mutton.

A Thali is a traditional Indian, Nepalese, and South Asian meal served on a large, round platter (also called a thali) featuring small bowls (katoris) with a variety of dishes.

It was one of the best meals I have ever had at a restaurant. If you are expecting me to explain anything about food, you are on the wrong blog. Just know I loved it, and I will be going back.

My favourite outfit from April

I’ve been enjoying getting dressed and finding inspiration as my style continues to evolve.

I haven’t been very consistent with documenting my outfits, but this one was my favourite from the month.

I really loved how it made me feel, and this burgundy tie is easily one of my best recent purchases. I can’t wait to style it again in different ways.

I am wearing a shirt from Edgars, mens section. I don’t recommend because it is Polyester. Trousers are from Big Daddy. Shoes from The Fixx, tie from Edgars as well.

Where did I wear this to, you ask? I was actually attending the Bang Bang production to document it for my clients.

It’s a prescribed text for high school students, brought to life through theatre to help them better understand it - edutainment, if you will. I thought the play was genuinely great, and the actors were incredibly impressive.

I’ll say it again. I want more for our Namibian actors. The talent is undeniable, and I really hope more opportunities open up for them.

My Pinterest board has come to life once again

Nine months in, and I’m still decorating my studio and honestly, I’m grateful for that. Imagine if I had rushed it before the rebrand, only to sit in a space that no longer reflects where we are now? Scary.

Since the rebrand, I’ve been curating a moodboard for what I want the studio to become. It’s a process. Mostly because everything is expensive, so finding the right pieces is taking time.

While visiting a client, I came across the most beautiful cabinet. She told me how she thrifted it, and we ended up chatting about second-hand shopping and all her go-to spots. I thought nothing of it and carried on with my day.

Then, a few weeks later, she messaged me — she needed to clear space and asked if I wanted the cabinet.

I don’t think I’ve ever said yes that fast.

Anyway, these are some of the shelves and cabinets currently sitting on my Pinterest board.

And this is what I bought from my client. Obsessed!
I am yet to fill and style it, so stay tuned for that. :-)

I got some goodies at Beyond

Speaking of second-hand, I stopped by Beyond to pick up the bowls I had left behind after my last content shoot.

Of course, I couldn’t just grab what I came for and leave. I spotted a few other gems along the way and ended up adding to my cart.

Back on my skincare journey

Let me tell you one thing: I’ve been slacking on my skin and it was showing. Dullness, hormonal acne, and hyperpigmentation.

I consulted my beauty therapist of a client and she let me know to start doing monthly facials again and then invest in skin care that is dermalogically proven to work. She says skincare products work best when you are getting consistent facials, it helps everything absorb and do what it’s meant to do.

So for my first facial back, I went to Healing Touch Spa, and got a peel.

The experience was great as usual, we started with a deep cleanse, followed by the peel, which sat for a while as she worked her magic — a head and neck massage, then arms and hands. That felt amazing.

I felt like a brand new girlie afterwards and so did my skin.

It’s been a few weeks now, and I can already see such a difference. I’m really looking forward to my next session… and just how good my skin can get from here.

Work as Play

I love my job and one of the best parts about it is how it nudges me into experiences I probably wouldn’t choose on my own. Not because I wouldn’t enjoy them, but because… homebody habits run deep and I usually need a solid reason to step out.

So maybe my work found me, to open me up to more.

Here are a few things I got up to “for work.”

I went to WIKA to support my client, not expecting much and ended up having such a good time.

I had a bratwurst, laughed through a cheeky roast about our country, and watched the Germans fully enjoy themselves.

Blended Voices returned for its second edition, and while I was there to document it, I found myself completely drawn in.

Listening to the choirs reinterpret Namibian music was something special, I left feeling genuinely in awe of just how much talent we have.

My favourite performances were those by Walvis Bay Ensemble,Luderitz Youth Choir and Namib Camerata.

Highlight of the night? Watching Jericho perform.

For work but also for self, Mitch and I went to the Sunday Market as per tradition. It was one of those soft, cloudy mornings in the city. We ate, wandered, listened to Lize Ehlers, and crossed paths with a few familiar (and new) faces.

There’s just something about a morning at The Sunday Market that I’ll always love.

Just Play

One of my intentions this year is to find my way back to the things I genuinely enjoy. Yes, I just spoke about being a homebody but there are things I will leave home for that are not work. And this month I did that.

I went to an art exhibition with Melody. We went to Anne Lacheiner Kuhn’s opening night at The Project Room.

I left with my favourite artist, Rudolf Seibeb’s coffee table book.

My sister and I went to a Just Breathe session by Melissa Mukaiwa, a grounding experience centred around yoga and breathwork, guiding us to slow down, let go, and build our inner reserves for winter.

We started with yoga (which, if I’m honest, isn’t usually my thing), so I was quietly relieved when we reached the end of that portion. The breathwork followed and that I enjoyed more. It felt like a real release, like I could finally set down the stress and weight I’d been carrying.

I’m so grateful we got to experience it.

Some notable things that brought me joy

James and I went to an Improv class at NTN, it was rightfully uncomfortable but so invigorating - felt like a release or exposure therapy.

We documented it for Beso.

Visited Tide 6 for the first time for a late lunch with a friend. I love what they did with the space.

I’d been planning to paint the studio’s kitchen and bathroom outer walls a deep brown to tie in our new branding, until I randomly got the idea to paint the entry area of our warehouse instead.

I mocked it up with AI to get a feel for it, sent it to my partner, and one weekend later… it was done.

I’m so happy with the results; this feels like just the beginning of slowly shaping this warehouse into my dream studio.

This post has gone on long enough, so I’ll leave it here.

April was a beautiful month for me, I hope it showed up just as kindly for you.

Here’s to May, and to continuing this little series. Wishing you a month that feels just as good, if not better.
